About
North Assembly Area is the smallest of the three campgrounds at Zumbro Bottoms; it is a primitive campground designed to furnish only the camper's basic needs, a vault toilet, and hand-pumped water.
There are no designated campsites in this campground. There are fire rings, picnic tables, picket lines, and a manure bunker in the campground. Campers can set up as they wish to keep in line with these rules: Portable pens are allowed but cannot be around trees. Horses cannot be tied to trees. Keep the size of your campsite reasonable. To allow for other campers to use only the amount of space you need. Clean up your campsite when you leave. Take all garbage with you and put all hay and manure in the bunker provided. This is an intimate camping area and can only accommodate about five camping units. Quiet hours are between 10:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. (this includes no generator use). Please be considerate of others around you.
Zumbro Bottoms offers access to 44 miles of horseback riding trails. The trails have been marked with brown signs showing appropriate uses.
Horseback riding trails are open May 1–November 1. Trails do not close when it rains, and only a few low trails flood when the river is high.
Communication is limited, and the trail system is multi-use in areas.
6 equestrian campsites. First come, first served for individual sites; pay the camping fee online on the day you arrive, or at a state park ranger station. Managed from Frontenac State Park (651-299-3000). In Richard J. Dorer Memorial Hardwood State Forest.
