Privacy

Park Otter has no analytics and no tracking of its own, no advertising, and no account unless you ask for one. This page says what the site stores and what it sends where.

On your device

Your saved sites, saved routes and last-used search radius are kept in your browser's own local storage. They never leave your device unless you sign in (below). Clearing your browser's site data removes them.

Signing in

Sign-in is optional and exists for one reason: so your saved sites and routes follow you between your phone and your computer. It works by email link — there is no password. When you sign in, the site stores your email address and your saved lists on its own server (a Cloudflare Workers KV store) and sets a signed cookie in your browser that keeps you signed in for 30 days. The sign-in email is delivered by Resend, which sees your address in order to send it. Your address is used for signing in and nothing else — it is never sold, shared or added to a mailing list. "Delete account" in the Saved panel removes the address and the server copy of your lists; the copy in your browser stays.

Photos and short clips (up to 15 seconds) you add to a campground's site map (since October 2026) are stored under your account alone, in a Cloudflare R2 bucket, and are shown only to you when you are signed in. Your browser shrinks each picture before sending it, which also strips the camera's location and device data. A picture taken with no connection waits in your browser until one returns. Delete a photo from its viewer, or the account from the Saved panel, and the pictures are removed from the server.

A photo or clip you choose to share ("Share with everyone" in its viewer) is looked at by the site's owner first (a clip always), then shown on that campsite's map to everyone who opens it, labelled "Photo by a visitor" or the name you gave, with the month it was taken. You keep the copyright and grant Park Otter the right to show it. Turn sharing off, or delete the photo or the account, and it comes down. Anyone can report a shared photo from its viewer, which takes it off the site at once pending a look. If you appear in a shared photo and want it removed, say so on the feedback page and it will come down.

A review you write of a campground (since October 2026) is public: it shows on that campground's panel to everyone, under the name you give ("a visitor" if none), with the stars, the month of your stay, the site and the rig you chose to mention. One review per campground per account; change or remove it any time from the same panel. A new account's reviews are looked at by the site's owner before they show; anyone can report a review, which takes it off the page pending a look. Deleting your account removes your reviews. Reviews are stored in Cloudflare's KV store with the account data above.

Requests that leave your browser

A few features query outside services straight from your browser, and those requests are governed by each service's own privacy policy:

Hosting

The site is served by Cloudflare Pages, which handles requests the way any host does and keeps its own operational logs. Park Otter adds no analytics script, no cookies other than the sign-in one above, and no fingerprinting.
