About
Central Assembly Area is moderate in size; it is a primitive campground designed to furnish only the camper's basic needs, vault toilets and hand-pumped water. The campground has fire rings, picnic tables, picket lines and manure bunkers.
There are no designated campsites in this campground. Campers may set up as they wish, so long as they follow these rules: Portable pens may not be around trees, and must be 50 feet from the road to minimize damage to the grass. Horses may not be tied to trees. Keep the size of your campsite reasonable. To allow for other campers, use only the amount of space you need. Clean up your campsite when you leave. Take all garbage with you and put all hay and manure in the bunkers provided. This is a popular camping area. On busy weekends it can accommodate about 20 camping units. Quiet hours are between 10:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. Generator use is not allowed during quiet hours. Please be considerate of others around you and remember that not everyone camps inside a trailer.
Zumbro Bottoms offers access to 44 miles of horseback riding trails. The trails have been marked with brown signs showing appropriate uses.
Horseback riding trails are open May 1–November 1. Trails do not close when it rains, and only a few low trails flood when the river is high.
Communication is limited, and the trail system is multi-use in areas.
8 equestrian campsites. First come, first served for individual sites; pay the camping fee online on the day you arrive, or at a state park ranger station. Managed from Frontenac State Park (651-299-3000). In Richard J. Dorer Memorial Hardwood State Forest.
