About
On the northern shores of Michigan's seventh-largest inland lake, Black Lake (Upper) State Forest Campground offers 35 sites for tents and trailers. Surrounded by rolling hills and hardwood forests, the shallow lake is ideal for paddling and fishing, including Northern pike and muskellunge. Amenities include vault toilets and potable water. The Black Mountain Pathway is located about one-third mile east of the campground.
While ORVs are permitted to operate between this rustic campground and nearby trails, ORVs must remain on trailers within the Black Lake (Upper) State Forest Campground.
The campground is located 11 miles north of Onaway via M-211, County Road 489, Black Mt. Road and Doriva Beach Road.
35 rustic campsites, $20 a night. Closed December 1 to April 15. First come, first served; register at the campground kiosk on the day you arrive. Vault toilets and a hand-pump well for drinking water; no electricity or hookups. One camping unit and six people per site, 15 nights at most. Managed from Cheboygan State Park (231-627-2811).
