About

Kusawa Lake is 1 of the 6 road-accessible campgrounds with reservable campsites. Many kayakers and canoeists begin their Takhini River day-trips from here, the lake outlet or the Takhini River Campground. Kusawa Territorial Park is popular for boating, fishing and hiking in the nearby mountains. Use binoculars to spot Dall's Sheep on the mountains. If you plan to camp here on a long weekend, have a back-up plan in case the campground is full. The Tlingit name Kùsawu.â means “narrow lake.” The Southern Tutchone name Nekhᶙ Män means “rafting across lake,” speaking to the narrowest point where people crossed. Group use area.

On the Alaska Highway at kilometre 1489, then 23 km along Kusawa Lake Road. 51 campsites, 8 of them pull-through. Half of the campsites can be reserved on Yukon Parks' reservation service; the rest are first come, first served. The gate is open year-round.

Beware of high winds and waves on this narrow lake. The sometimes narrow, winding road can be muddy after rain and pitted in sandy sections.

Fees

$20 CAD per night paid in cash at the campground, or $18 with a nightly camping voucher or a reservation; fees apply May 1 to September 30
