About
Reached by ferry to Madeline Island in Lake Superior's Apostle Islands, Big Bay State Park offers sandstone sea caves, a sand beach, and a boardwalk through a lagoon and bog. The 60-site campground mixes 21 electric sites with non-electric and walk-in sites, plus an outdoor group camp a half-mile from the main loop; five plowed sites stay open for winter camping with reservations. Showers and drinking water run seasonally, roughly Memorial Day weekend through early October.
Fees
Wisconsin DNR statewide camping system: a vehicle admission sticker is required at every state park or forest entrance, including for registered campers - $28/year for Wisconsin residents ($13/year age 65+) or $50/year for non-residents, or $13/day resident / $16/day non-resident. Nightly campsite rates vary by electricity, amenities, location, site type, day of week and season, and are shown when you select a specific site during booking; non-resident campers pay a flat $15/night surcharge on top of the site's own rate. A $9.30 reservation fee applies per booking, plus a $10 cancellation fee or $6 change fee if plans change. Pets are allowed at this campground on a leash no longer than 8 feet at all times, per Wisconsin State Park System's statewide pet policy; owners must clean up and properly dispose of pet waste.
