About
Round Valley Recreation Area, in Lebanon Township, is the only New Jersey state park offering true wilderness camping - 60 secluded sites (52 family, 8 group) along the reservoir's southeastern shoreline at the base of Cushetunk Mountain, reachable only by boat or by a 3-6 mile hike/mountain-bike trek. There is no vehicle access to the campground at all. Restrooms are primitive pit toilets; there are no showers, and drinking water is not always available at every site. Open April 1 through Oct. 31, with camper check-in required by 4-6pm depending on season. Not recommended for young children or the elderly given the distance and difficulty. All 60 sites are pet-friendly for an extra $5 per pet per night. For drive-in camping, nearby Spruce Run Recreation Area is the option.
Fees
New Jersey Division of Parks and Forestry rate for Round Valley's wilderness campsites: $17/night NJ resident, $22/night non-resident for the 52 family sites; $50/night NJ resident, $100/night non-resident for the 8 group sites; plus a $5 transaction fee per booking. Cancellations are charged $40 (NJ resident) or $50 (non-resident), or a two-night use fee, whichever is less.
