About

Town of Barnstable hike-in camping in the dunes of Sandy Neck, a 4,700-acre barrier beach on Cape Cod Bay. Five primitive tent sites 3.3 miles out the Marsh Trail and one lean-to 2.3 miles out with a marsh view; everything is carried in and out through deep sand, with no vehicle access and no wagons. Picnic tables, portable toilets, and staff-delivered jugs of drinking water at the sites; no running water. Up to five people and two tents per tent site, five people at the lean-to, two-night maximum, and campers must start hiking at least an hour before sunset. No fires at the tent sites; lean-to fires are seasonal and restricted. No pets. The sites close every year from July 1 to August 15 and are otherwise open subject to management closures. Reserved online through the town's permit system. This shares a point with the park's beach camping for vehicles: both are pinned at the park gatehouse, and the sites themselves are out along the neck.
