About each unit

Derby Cove Cabin · sleeps 8

Sleeps up to 8, in Caines Head SRA south of Seward, near the park's historic WWII fortifications. Reached by a 4.5-mile trail from Lowell Point (two miles of it on beach, crossable only around low tide - time your trip with the tides) or by private boat/float plane/charter shuttle from Seward, though no mooring buoy exists at either cabin. Difficult to reach in winter due to wind, rain, and heavy seas. Heated by a wood stove (bring your own fuel). Pets must stay leashed. Like every Alaska State Parks public-use cabin, it comes with wooden sleeping platforms, a table, and chairs or benches, plus a nearby outdoor latrine - no running water or indoor plumbing. Bring your own sleeping bag or bedding, cooking stove and fuel, cookware and utensils, and a 9-volt battery for the smoke detector. A natural water source is usually nearby but must be purified before drinking.
