Marvin Pass Trailhead the Forest Service's write-up

The Marvin Pass trailhead is a popular route for backpackers heading through Sequoia National Forest and into or out of Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Park. It is a common stock route as well for horse use and packers. From here you can easily make the day hike up to the spectacular views offered by Mitchell Peak, the highest point in the Jennie Lakes Wilderness .

In the winter and early spring the Big Meadows Road (FS 14S11) may be closed due to snow and access to this trailhead is closed to vehicle traffic. During this time of year trails and roads system are open to foot traffic even when the gate is closed. Typically the roads can open in late May, but this is all weather dependent.

Accessibility
The FS road (13S12) to this trailhead is washed out and very rough. Low clearance vehicles are not advised on this road.

About this trail's facts

The lines are the US Forest Service's National Forest System trails layer (public domain), read 2026-10-16 and simplified for the map; the length is the line's, end to end, and the class, surface, grade and tread width are the forest's own entries where it publishes them - a forest that publishes the centreline alone has none. The trailheads and the points along the way are the Service's recreation points, and the write-ups its own recarea text, unedited. Heights come from USGS 3DEP through Terrain Tiles on AWS (Mapzen/Tilezen), read along each line and rounded; a short trail on steep ground can be off by a few tens of feet. Closures change: check the forest's own site before you go.
