About

A great place for a picnic or overnight stay on your Dempster Highway adventure. Nestled in one of the few boreal forests stands in the region. The campground is named after the river, whose Gwich’in name, Chii Deetak, means “river flowing between the rocky hills.” The open tundra begins to the north and goes to the Beaufort Sea. The Arctic Circle is a 40 km drive to the south. October to April: Register your stay (payment not required). Bring your own wood and toilet paper and please pack out your garbage.

On the Dempster Highway at kilometre 446. 17 campsites, 3 of them pull-through. All campsites are first come, first served.

$20 CAD per night paid in cash at the campground, or $18 with a nightly camping voucher or a reservation; fees apply May 1 to September 30
