About
Once planned as a Cold War-era Air Force base, Richard Bong State Recreation Area is now 4,500 acres of restored prairie, wetlands, and grassland southwest of Kenosha, popular for hunting, model aircraft flying, and hang gliding. The Sunrise and Sunset campgrounds together hold 217 family sites (54 electric) plus six group sites for up to 225 campers combined; an accessible cabin is also on-site (not counted in the total above).
Fees
Wisconsin DNR statewide camping system: a vehicle admission sticker is required at every state park or forest entrance, including for registered campers - $28/year for Wisconsin residents ($13/year age 65+) or $50/year for non-residents, or $13/day resident / $16/day non-resident. Nightly campsite rates vary by electricity, amenities, location, site type, day of week and season, and are shown when you select a specific site during booking; non-resident campers pay a flat $15/night surcharge on top of the site's own rate. A $9.30 reservation fee applies per booking, plus a $10 cancellation fee or $6 change fee if plans change. Pets are allowed at this campground on a leash no longer than 8 feet at all times, per Wisconsin State Park System's statewide pet policy; owners must clean up and properly dispose of pet waste.
