About
Near Mount Rogers and Whitetop Mountain, Virginia's two highest peaks, Grayson Highlands offers sweeping alpine-like views above 5,000 feet and is famous for its wild ponies along the Appalachian Trail. One campground has both electric-and-water and no-hookup sites plus a group camping area, while a separate campground is dedicated to equestrian campers, with electric-and-water horse sites and stalls for trailers; a bunkhouse and yurts are also on site, not counted in the total above. It's a popular base for hiking to waterfalls and overlooks in the surrounding Mount Rogers National Recreation Area.
