About
Hammocks Beach State Park near Swansboro offers both mainland campsites and primitive beach camping on Bear Island, a barrier island reachable only by private boat, kayak, canoe, or the park's passenger ferry - there's no bridge or vehicle access. Some mainland sites have 50-amp full hookups; island sites are primitive with no hookups. Showers and restrooms are available, and campers must check in at the visitor center before heading out - no late arrivals to the island.
Fees
Primitive sites run about $17/night, non-electric sites about $27/night, and electric (50-amp full hookup) sites about $42/night. Confirm current rates when booking.
