Schecks Place State Forest Campground

This lush, shaded campground sits on the banks of the Boardman River offering excellent paddling, fishing and bird watching opportunities. There are 30 sites for tent and small-to-medium trailer use. As a designated Blue Ribbon trout stream, the river offers unparalleled fishing opportunities, and its Natural River status ensures its continued preservation.

This state forest campground is a stop along the Shore-to-Shore Trail, a 420-mile trail system open to hiking and horseback riding, that stretches east-west from Empire to Oscoda with two additional northern and southern spur trails. The campground is located 12 miles southwest of Williamsburg via Williamsburg, Supply and Brown Bridge roads.

30 rustic campsites, $20 a night. Open all year; the road may not be plowed in winter. First come, first served; register at the campground kiosk on the day you arrive. Vault toilets and a hand-pump well for drinking water; no electricity or hookups. One camping unit and six people per site, 15 nights at most. Managed from Traverse City State Park (231-922-5270).
