About

From the early 1920s to the 1960s Camp Morton was a Roman Catholic children’s summer camp and was named after its founder Monsignor Thomas W. Morton. The camp was filled with much laughter, happy times and outdoor adventures. In 1974, Camp Morton and the adjacent lands became a provincial park. The interesting architecture of the historic buildings set against the stunning natural scenery is just one of the reasons why this park is such a source of enjoyment to visitors. Here on the shores of Lake Winnipeg, you will find one of the largest concentrations of white pelicans in the world. The area also provides excellent viewing of bald eagles, hawks, songbirds and shorebirds. The nature trails will take you on a peaceful stroll through a natural mixed boreal forest consisting of white spruce, ash, oak, birch and many shrubs and wild flowers including lady slippers, trillium and wild asters. There is also the opportunity to relax on the shoreline and swim or do a little fishing for pickerel, bass, sunfish, perch and the occasional northern pike. Visit for the day or stay overnight in one of our campsites, group use areas, cabins or yurts and continue the tradition of happy times and outdoor adventures with your friends and family.

In the campground: kiosk, pit privies, swimming (unsupervised beach), and hand pump water taps (untested water).

Elsewhere in the park: biking, fishing (license required), hiking, picnic areas, picnic shelter (near the historic buildings), playground, firewood (available for purchase at the campground office 2 km away), dump station (2 km away near the campground office), modern washrooms (2 km away near the campground office), and pay showers (2 km away near the campground office).

5 overflow sites are issued at the campground office once the campground is full.

6 yurts and 14 cabins can be booked here as well.

Directions: Located 8 kilometres north of Gimli on P.T.H. 222 and approximately 98 kilometres north of Winnipeg.
